故事发生在1989年的柏林，莱曼（克里斯蒂安·乌蒙 Christian Ulmen 饰）是一个整天游手好闲无所事事的小混混，沉浸在酒精和毒品之中无法自拔，一事无成。一天，莱曼震惊的得知自己远在他乡的父亲母亲要前来探望他，为了不让父母失望，莱曼找到了好友卡尔（德特勒夫·巴克 Detlev Buck 饰）。 卡尔将自己的餐厅借给了莱曼，莱曼则装成是餐厅的经理，这让莱曼的父母赚足了面子。与此同时，莱曼在餐厅里邂逅了名为卡特琳（卡佳·达诺沃斯基 Katja Danowski 饰）的厨娘，两人之间碰撞出了激情的火花。好景不长，父母以为莱曼混得风生水起，于是将需要接济的亲人都托付给他，这让莱曼叫苦不迭。。Speedy" loses his job as a soda-jerk, then spends the day with his girl at Coney Island. He then becomes a cab driver and delivers Babe Ruth to Yankee Stadium, where he stays to see the game. When the railroad tries to run the last horse-drawn trolley (operated by his girl's grandfather) out of business, "Speedy" organizes the neighborhood oldtimers to thwart their scheme.。
