皮耶，一个年过半百却遭逢写作瓶颈的作家，也是一位“前”男、一位长期的爱感染者；他无力应付庞大的孤独，选择把自己锁在家中，等待灵感的到来。疾病、恐惧、衰老、死亡……这些在他人生最后阶段无可逃避的习题，他拿起电话叫来一名年轻的“同业”，与他一齐分享……。江西苏区，十五岁少年王瑞（钟秋 饰）全家四口跟中央红军进行长征，湘江战役时，父亲被炮火击中，临终前嘱咐儿子：跟着走。就在这时，他第一次结识了毛泽东（王英 饰）。遵义会议后，担任警卫的王瑞目睹了毛泽东、贺子珍（赵琳 饰）夫妇为革命大局丢掉刚出生的女儿，他更加坚定了自已的战斗意志，在毛泽东的正确指挥下，红军取得了娄山关战役的胜利。在通过凉山地区时，他的姐姐竹妹子（王嘉 饰）英勇牺牲，王瑞失去了第二个亲人。飞夺卢定桥战斗打响后，他的姐夫肖德昌（齐奎 饰）又把年轻的生命永远留在了大渡河中。在卢定桥头，毛泽东发出的感叹激励了王瑞一生……。The TARDIS lands in London on Christmas Eve, 1851 and almost immediately the Doctor hears his name being called.
