One day, they are tasked with cleaning a house where there were three dead bodies inside. Their job is to clean the corpses that have rotted. When they arrived there, they found that there are strange things happening and then they discover a strange book.。孝夫（寺尾聪饰）和美智子（樋口可南子饰）结婚多年，两人在东京定居。虽然孝夫总是自称为小说家，但早已经过气了的他现在连一部作品都卖不出去，全家上下的重担都落到了身为精英医师的妻子肩上。一场意外的发生让美智子患上了恐慌症，为了缓解妻子的病情，孝夫决定举家搬迁到位于故乡信州的一座小小村落里。 在村里，夫妻两人结识了96岁高龄的幸田婆婆。幸田婆婆脑袋里总是有很多天马行空的想法，她将这些故事讲述给患有喉疾的女孩小百合（小西真奈美饰）听，小百合则讲这些话语整理成文章，刊登在村中的小报《阿弥陀堂讯息》上。。
