Tracing the web of power, money, violen...。影片讲述了三个关于婚姻的故事，三个故事各自成章又互为因果，每段婚姻都是一次轮回，二人世界中无人幸免。。故事发生在三十年代的上海闸北区，有两个势力对立的黑帮组织——“青龙帮"和"黑龙帮”。为了争夺地盘，他们纷纷施展各种奇谋。青龙帮的头目川图巴结军阀以扩大声势，而黑龙帮的头目魂则想挫败川图的气势，于是重金雇佣了曾经的大佬凌锋和他的女儿凌若华（郑裕玲饰），计划让川出丑。 川图收养了流浪汉欧阳汉（周润发饰），让他与凌若华纠缠，打乱凌若华的思绪。欧阳汉和凌若华之间展开了一场明争暗斗。他们的斗争引起了巡捕萧六（吕良伟饰）的注意，萧六对欧阳汉有所偏见，经常找借口为难他们，两人因此产生了对立。川图和萧六同时爱上了歌女韩梦蝶（姚炜饰），但不幸的是蝶倾心于欧阳汉，川图得知后心生嫉妒。。
